New field a great start to a new partnership

We would like to thank those in the community who donated their time and money to the Maroon Tide Nation Foundation.
There is a big debate right now in our state about funding public education. But what is not up for debate is that our schools need funding and that, generally, our public schools are underfunded.
By giving money to support improvements to the field, donors are giving money to the whole district. Instead of spending taxpayer money on the field (and make no mistake, a real grass field costs money regardless of who is footing the tab), the district may now use that money to buy better educational materials.
In addition, the Foundation is going to continue its fundraising for the school and presumably raise money for other projects and activities. Bear in mind, too, that these projects and improvements are not merely superficial improvements. The field looks great, but what’s behind the field is of far greater value than an attractive playing surface.
What the community has done demonstrates not just an investment in a high school football program, but a commitment to public schools and education. Studies show that schools with a high level of community support have happier teachers and administrators and provide kids with better educations. The better educated our children are, the better prepared our community is to attract business and development opportunities.
The foundation and the community that donated to the foundation have proven the community stands behind the district and will continue to do so. We are confident this arrangement will benefit all of the school district and, eventually, all of the community.
Thank you to everyone who donated, and please keep the foundation in mind for future gifts. We may not always get enough funding from Jackson for our public schools, so it is a relief to see that we can depend on ourselves to get things done.
