OBIT Acosta

MSgt Albert “Bay” Acosta (ret.) , age 92, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at his home in Toca.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lorenza Estopinal Acosta, daughter Lynne Acosta Lemoine (John, Sr.), and son Lt. Col. Don S. Acosta (Vanessa). He has 5 grandchildren: MSgt. John T. Lemoine, Jr. (TSgt. Rachel); Ashlynne DuVernay (Patrick), TSgt. Kevin J. Lemoine (Jennifer), Conrad Acosta and Scott Acosta. He has 4 great-grandsons: AE2 Devin DuSaules, Justin T. Lemoine, Cody T. Lemoine, and Ezra J. Lemoine.
Mr. Acosta was born in Benecheque on February 8, 1923, to Richard “Dickie” Acosta, Sr. and Christine Molero Acosta. He had seven brothers: Lawrence (Stella), Herman “Monk” (Josephine), Fred “Fritz” (Millie), Arthur (Alberta), Richard, Jr. (Louise), Earl (Marlene) and Valentino (Mary).
Mr. Acosta served in three wars (WWII, Korea, and Vietnam) while in the Army, Guard, and Air Force. He leaves behind a tradition of serving and was proud to see his son, two grandsons, one granddaughter-in-law, and a great-grandson serve in the Air Force.
After WWII and before going into the Air Force, he trapped and fished in lower St. Bernard. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the Veterans Administration, from which he also retired, and then started the Children’s Christmas Tree Farm in Mississippi, enjoying  many years of watching the excitement of children find and cut their own Christmas trees. Mr. Acosta was also a past president of the Los Isleños.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, August 25th from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2805 Bayou Road, St. Bernard, LA. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Bernard Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Acosta will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
