During the remaining days of August, a fall tradition will once again pick up speed, high school football.
In anticipation of “Friday Night Lights,” the Picayune Memorial High School varsity cheerleaders will host the school’s annual Meet the Tide event at the Picayune Memorial High School football stadium.
Varsity cheer coach Donya Bond said this event provides the community with an opportunity to see the football team.
Also, the event will be the first time football fans will see the field’s new turf, which was installed this year, she said.
There will be performances from the school’s NJROTC, band and junior and high school dance and cheerleading teams, Bond said.
At the end of their performances, the football team will be introduced and a scrimmage game will ensue, Bond said.
According to previous Item coverage, head coach Dodd Lee is hopeful his team will accomplish big things this season.
Lee is also expecting good things from his offensive line this year, which is comprised of all seniors, according to previous coverage.
“We are looking to fill in a few spots from anybody that will step up to play,” Lee said Friday. “We have people with abilities they don’t realize.”
Meet the Tide will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m.
Admission to the event is $3 and all proceeds will be donated to the school’s athletic programs, Bond said.
The event will be held at Picayune Memorial High School football stadium, located at 800 Fifth Ave.
The first Maroon Tide football game of the season will be held on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. The game will be held at the Picayune Memorial High School football stadium where the Tide will take on D’Iberville.
