Through the efforts of the staff at Picayune Main Street, it appears more and more people are discovering the wonderful attributes of downtown Picayune.
Not only is it a historic destination, but the streets are coming to life with the addition of new and what appear to be thriving businesses.
This week, shoppers had the opportunity to participate in Main Street’s Christmas in July event.
However, Christmas isn’t over yet and there’s still time to take advantage of specials today and Friday.
Today is character day where business owners are encouraged to invite a fictional character to their shop for a photo opportunity, previous Item coverage states. Shoppers are also asked to donate school supplies or used school uniforms, which will grant them an extra chance to register for the Merry Cheer Basket drawing.
Tomorrow, there’s a free gift with purchase at participating retailers and Saint Nicholas will also be making an appearance.
According to previous Item coverage, the merchants participating in Christmas in July include April’s, Bella Skin, Bubbles and Bliss, Bre’s Clothing and Accessories, Glass Porch, Crystal Gallery, Dancewear Connection, Angel’s Place, MeLinda’s Fine Gifts, Bonnie Blue Boutique, Barze´Place Antique and Collectibles Mall, Nostalgia, Shay’s Thrift Store, Occasions by Lisa and Gipson’s Antiques.
Not only does this provide residents with the perfect opportunity to begin early Christmas shopping, it is also a way for people to visit downtown businesses and maybe discover a new favorite place to shop.
Here at the Item, we appreciate the efforts put forward by the staff of Picayune Main Street.
Through their hard work, more and more people are learning about the benefits and charm of this place we call home.
