Picayune Main Street is getting a jumpstart on the holidays with next week’s Christmas in July event.
The event will take place in downtown Picayune with a number of participating merchants offering daily specials.
According to the event flyer, Christmas in July will last from Monday, July 13 to Friday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shoppers can register with participating business owners for a drawing to be held on July 17, the flyer states.
Each day will hold a new surprise for shoppers as they shop their way through downtown.
According to the flyer, on Monday, each owner will be asked to have folded pieces of paper with different daily store specials for customers to draw at checkout.
Tuesday, patrons will receive two chances to register for Merry Cheer Basket drawing with a purchase, the flyer states.
The first 20 customers on Wednesday will be given a free gift with purchase, the flyer states. Thursday is character day, where business owners are encouraged to invite a fictional character to their shop for a photo opportunity. That same day, shoppers are asked to donate school supplies or used school uniforms, which will grant them an extra chance to register for the Merry Cheer Basket drawing, the flyer states.
The festive event ends Friday with a free gift with each $25 purchase. Santa will also be making an appearance in downtown Picayune, the flyer states.
The merchants participating in Christmas in July include April’s Picayune, Bella Skin, Bubbles and Bliss, Bre’s Clothing and Accessories, Glass Porch, Crystal Gallery, Dancewear Connection, Angel’s Place, MeLinda’s Fine Gifts, Bonnie Blue Boutique, Barze´Place Antique and Collectibles Mall, Nostalgia, Shay’s Thrift Store, Occasions by Lisa and Gipson’s Antiques.
Crystal Gallery manager Katy Jarrell said this event is a great way to promote sales for every business owner in the downtown area.
“This time of year, people are on vacation,” Jarrell said. “The warmer temperatures also play a factor. I have to give kudos to Reba Beebe and Picayune Main Street. They work hard striving to help our community. They always include our businesses in events. I’m hoping for a good turnout and people will come and have a day of relaxing and see downtown.”
Bonnie Blue Boutique owner Paula Spiers said next week provides her the perfect opportunity to alert shoppers to her new and expanded location.
“We now sell items for adults, teenagers and children,” Spiers said. “This is a wonderful opportunity. Picayune Main Street does a fantastic job at keeping downtown alive and supporting our shops. I appreciate them working so hard for all the local shops. Plus, our customers are wonderful.”
