On July 27, at 10:48 a.m., officers with the Picayune Police Department were dispatched to Dad’s Camper Outlet, located on S. Haugh Ave., in reference to several burglaries, Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the business owner, who stated he had discovered that, sometime between 6 p.m. on July 25 and 10:48 a.m. on July 27, someone had broken into three campers, Magri said. The front doors were damaged in order to gain entry into the campers. The owner also told officers that televisions were missing from inside the campers, Magri said.
Officers on scene then requested assistance from the department’s investigation division in order to process the scene in an attempt to locate physical evidence, Magri said.
While officers processed the scene, the business and employees inspected the rest of the campers and observed four more burgled campers, Magri said. The doors on those campers were also damaged and the televisions were missing, Magri said.
Altogether, seven campers were burgled and seven televisions were stolen, Magri said. The approximate value of the televisions is $5,000 and approximately $2,000 worth of damage was done to the campers, Magri said.
Through their investigation, detectives determined the suspect or suspects utilized a pry bar to gain entry to the campers, Magri said.
However, detectives did recover some fingerprints from the scene, which have been sent to the crime lab, Magri said.
The identity of the suspect or suspects is unknown at this time and detectives are actively investigating the burglaries and following any and all leads, Magri said.
The Picayune Police Department is asking people who have information pertaining to these burglaries to contact the Picayune Police Department at 601-798-7411 or Pearl County Crimestoppers at 601-799-CLUE (2583).
