You’re going to miss this

Friday night I attended Pearl River Central’s high school graduation.
I could not keep myself from time traveling back ten years to my own high school graduation. It is so hard to believe it has been that long. It seems like just yesterday I was running down the hall to class, going to football games on Friday nights and passing notes in study hall.
If I could give advice to the senior class of 2015, it would be to not take a single day for granted.
As a kid, I thought I would never reach senior year. Once senior year finally came, I thought it would never end. Then, as I was walking across the stage to receive my diploma on graduation night I realized it was over.
As an adult, I would give anything to go back. Trace Adkins said it best:
“You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this.”
These lyrics hold so much truth. Those really were some of the best days of my life, but back then I was in too much of a rush to be an adult to realize it. Don’t be in a rush. Enjoy being a kid. If you are getting ready to head off to college in the fall, do everything you can to soak up that experience. Once it’s over you can’t go back.
If you are still in high school or about to start middle school, enjoy it! Don’t take it for granted, and take every opportunity there is to be involved at your school.
Ten years flies by, so make them years to remember.
Happy ten years to the class of 2005. Go Conquerors!
