The Pearl River Central Bass Assassins will be heading to the Mississippi B.A.S.S. Nation State Championship in Jackson this weekend.
The competition will be held Saturday on the Ross Barnett Reservoir.
There will be more than 60 teams competing in the championship including Petal, Oakgrove, Laurel, Heidelberg, Sumrall, Hancock, and Purvis.
There will be six teams at two people each from PRC consisting of Brad Sampson, Justin Blansett, Seth Mitchell, Calab Hebert, Wayne Marisco, Carmon Parker, Austin Navarre, Carter Nicholson, Johnny Maggiore, Ty Brewer, Gavin Walter and Mason Spiers.
Each team is made up of two anglers and a captain. The captain is only allowed to drive the boat, while the other team members do the fishing.
The Assassins will head to Jackson Thursday to prepare for a pre-fish on Friday from 7 a.m.- 3 p.m. The championship will take place Saturday beginning at daylight, with weigh-in taking place at 2 p.m.
First, second and third place prizes will include scholarships to major universities across Mississippi.
Head coach Rodney Sampson said his team has worked hard for this opportunity, and was also quick to recognize others who have helped his team this season.
“We would like to thank the local community and all the local business in the area that have made it possible for us to help the young anglers focus on doing something good that someday they could pass on to their children and community,” said Sampson.
