Basketball camp now taking applications

Coach Chareck Cable, head coach of the varsity basketball team at Poplarville High School, is hosting the Super Star Skills Camp on May 27-29 from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
The camp will take place in the gym at Poplarville High, and is open to boys entering grades 4-9 next school year. Registration will be on the 27th from 8:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. The camp will start everyday at 9 a.m. and go until 12 p.m. Lunch will be from 12-12:30, with camp starting back after lunch and lasting till 3:30 p.m. On the 29th, there will be an awards ceremony from 4 – 4:30 p.m.
The cost of the camp is $85, which includes a camp Tshirt, the trophies that will be given out on the last day and lunch each day of camp.
Cable, along with his staff, will be teaching players the fundamentals of the game, as well as the importance of teamwork.
“It will be a fun, competitive atmosphere for them to learn in,” said Cable.
Cable is preparing to enter his third season as head coach of the Hornets. In the 2014-2015 season he took his team to the playoffs. Cable was also selected as the District Coach of the Year for the 2011-2012 season.
During his playing days at Belhaven University, Cable led his team in scoring and was the 1998-1999 All Gulf Coast Conference Selection.
