Blue Devils finished regular season with a win

Pearl River Central shutout Brookhaven Friday night in their last game of the regular season with a final score of 10-0.
Third baseman Anthony Hickman scored the only run in the first inning putting the Blue Devils on the board.
Brookhaven led off at the top of the second with three quick outs bringing PRC back up to bat.
First baseman Cody Miller scored the first run in the second for PRC.
Center fielder Jeshua Lee hit a single, and the Blue Devils were able to score two runs off senior first baseman Cole Lott’s homer.
With his turn at bat, shortstop Johnathon Kennedy hit a double, and was able to score off Hickman’s subsequent double.
Senior outfielder Wesley Mitchell was next at bat. Mitchell hit a double, which brought Hickman home putting the Blue Devils up 6-0.
The third inning proved to be uneventful for both teams with no runs scored on either side.
At the top of the fourth, the Panthers tried to get something going with a runner on first and third early. However, Blue Devil’s senior pitcher Cordel Eastland had other ideas, striking out two hitters back to back and ending the inning for Brookhaven.
Senior second baseman Zach Evans earned the first out of the fourth for PRC, bringing up outfielder Zach Roussell. Roussell hit a single and was able to steal second and third.
Senior right fielder Cody Lee was next at bat with his turn ending in a walk. Catcher Andrew Krol also hit a double in the fourth. Roussell and Lee each scored a run for PRC in the inning.
The fifth inning saw a pitching change for PRC with senior Cody Lee taking the mound.
Lee immediately struck out the first batter, and only allowed a single before striking out the next two.
Hickman led off for the Blue Devils at the bottom of the fifth, hitting a home run. Left fielder Nick Newman had a single in the inning, and senior catcher Mason Songy tripled to end the inning. The final score was 10-0.
PRC ended their regular season 9-0 in district play, and went 17-5 overall. The Blue Devils are the number one seed heading into the playoffs.
The Lady Blue Devils currently stand at 4-0 in district play and are 17-4 overall.
In other baseball action, Poplarville went on the road Friday night against Vancleave, and came away with the victory. The final score was 4-2. Poplarville will finish their regular season tonight on the road against Perry Central. The Hornets’ current record is 12-8. Poplarville will be taking on Northeast Lauderdale at home Thursday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs.
The lady Hornets are currently 5-2 in district play and 7-6 overall.
The Picayune Maroon Tide baseball team was at home Friday night against Stone, and played a double header on the road against Hancock Saturday. Calls to coaches for scores and updated rankings were not returned by press time Monday.
The Lady Maroon Tide currently stand at 11-6-3 overall and 2-2 in district play.
