Accident claims life of woman

According to a news story published on nola.com, a 19-year-old Picayune woman died Sunday as a result of a single-car accident on Interstate 59 in Pearl River. She was eight months pregnant.

The story states that the adult male driver was injured, but a two-year-old in a car seat was unhurt.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s office identified the deceased as Amanda Bankston, whose unborn child also passed away, the news report states.

The news report states that the accident occurred at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. Pearl River Police officers found a Chevrolet Blazer overturned near the tree line along the northbound lanes of I-59. Bankston was pronounced dead on scene, the story states.

In the report, the police state that the driver is in stable condition. The driver and two-year-old child were not identified in the story.

The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending, police said in the news report. It is currently unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the SUV.
