SPCA Fundraiser at MeLinda’s Fine Gifts and More

Beginning Monday, MeLinda’s Fine Gifts owner, Melinda Shaw, will begin a fundraiser for a cause that is “near and dear to her heart.”
For the past nine years, Shaw has held a spring Pearl River County SPCA event at her retail location.
“Animals are so close to my heart,” Shaw said. “They can’t take care of themselves and it’s our responsibility to care for them. At the end of the day, if we’ve saved one animal, we’ve done a lot.”
For the next week, customers who bring in supplies for the animal shelter will receive 20 percent off their purchase, Shaw said. In the past, Shaw said that the community has been supportive of the cause and the event is always a success.
“We appreciate our customers who take the extra time to bring in a few items,” Shaw said.
PRC SPCA president Maria Diamond and treasurer Bettie Cashion said, in the past, Shaw hosted animal adoptions at her store.
Shaw will be collecting a number of supplies including cleaning, office and toys for both cats and dogs.
“It makes our animals happy to have something to play with,” Diamond said. “It stimulates them so that they stay active and don’t get depressed.”
Cashion also suggested a number of needed items including copier paper, bleach, paper towels, paper clips, post-it notes clear shipping tape, index cards and stamps.
“In many instances, the PRC SPCA pays the veterinarian bills for injured animals,” Cashion said. “We also pay the costs for spaying and neutering, shots, antibiotics and medicine. We have water, sewer and electrical bills. Any and all donations are definitely a big help to our organization.”
Anyone wishing to donate supplies to the PRC SPCA may do so from Monday, March 9 to Saturday, March 14 at both MeLinda’s locations.
MeLinda’s Fine Gifts and More is located at 1 Sycamore Road, Suite B and at 109 West Canal Street.
