On Saturday, March 7 a local man was subdued by a stun gun and arrested for possession of drugs and failing to comply with officers.
At 1:36 p.m., Picayune Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding at Meadow Green Boulevard near Hwy. 11, Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.
Officers approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, later identified as George Jones, 29, of 3361 Jackson Landing Rd. Officers allegedly observed Jones to appear extremely nervous, Magri said.
Officers asked Jones to exit the vehicle and walk to the rear of the car, but as the officers spoke to Jones, they observed him to repeatedly place his hands inside his pockets, Magri said.
Upon checking for local warrants on Jones, officers found Jones had one for felony receiving stolen property, Magri said.
Officers asked Jones to place his hands on the car, but Jones allegedly stated to the officers, “I’m not going to let you search me” as he backed away allegedly preparing to run, Magri said.
The officers took out an electronic control device and ordered Jones to place his hands back on the rear of the car, which he did, Magri said.
At which time, officers observed Jones reaching inside his right pocket and concealing an object in his right hand, Magri said.
Officers repeatedly asked Jones to show them what he was holding, but Jones didn’t respond and proceeded to walk away again, placing the object inside his mouth, Magri said.
The officers repeatedly ordered Jones to spit the object out of his mouth, which he refused to do and continued to walk away, Magri said.
At that time the officer deployed the electronic control device, striking Jones in his upper body, Magri said.
Officers were able to recover the object inside Jones’ mouth, which was a clear plastic bag containing an off-white substance believed to be heroin, Magri said.
Officers also found a syringe inside the subject’s left front pants pocket, Magri said.
Jones was taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance felony, the receiving stolen property felony warrant, possession of paraphernalia, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct failure to comply, speeding, no driver’s license and expired tag, Magri said.
Jones is still in jail with a $10,250 bond, Magri said.
