Wheat Sr.

John “Bampy” Wheat Sr., age 67, a native of Picayune, MS, and a resident of Pumpkin Center, LA went to his heavenly home on March 10, 2015 at North Oaks Medical Center. He retired as a supervisor for the railroad with 20 years of dedicated service. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, frogging, and jugging with his children and grandchildren, as well as rooting for his Saints while his family would pick at him when they were losing. John was a humble, patient, loving, relaxed man who still believed in chivalry by writing love notes on the mirror for his wife of 38 years, Kimberly. Most of his time was spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren making lasting memories.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Kimberly Wheat; daughters, Sonja Leenders and husband Len, Tracy Williams and husband David, Monique Yawn and husband Chris, Brittany Wheat; sons, John Wheat and wife Karrie, Wesley Starkey; as well as 14 wonderful grandchildren and 1 precious great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by parents, Morris and Stella Wheat; siblings, Morris Wheat, Lavera Wheat, Lavetith Wheat and Eddith Wheat.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Josh Powell will be officiating.
