Saturday, the Item covered the well-attended Dancing with the Relay Stars of Picayune event.
The American Cancer Society hosts Relay for Life events each year to raise money and awareness for cancer.
The events also remember those lost to cancer, those fighting and the survivors.
Many people in this community donated their time and money to this worthy cause.
The dancers entertained the crowds with their rehearsed musical numbers.
People donated money to vote for their favorite couple and also bid on items for the silent auction.
According to event officials, almost $10,000 was raised for the American Cancer Society last weekend, which also included a matinee performance on Sunday,
The people in this community are truly generous and willing to support those battling cancer.
There are not many that cancer’s deadly nature have not touched and it’s heartwarming to witness a community stand together to fight cancer.
The Item salutes the volunteers, sponsors, donors and of course the talented dancers for all the hard work they put in to ensure last weekend was a success.
Finding a cure for cancer is something we can all agree on. It’s an ugly disease but with the help and support of the generous members of this community, cancer doesn’t stand a chance.
Dancing with the Relay Stars of Picayune was a unique and rewarding event.
From our view, the evening was a success. There were many smiling faces, laughter and dancing.
It was a great night in Picayune.
