Taking leaps

Perhaps one day I shall attend Fashion Week in New York City, but until that day I shall have to be satisfied with news reports and photographs of the stunning creations.
History was made during this year’s event as actress Jamie Brewer took the stage.
According to news sources, she is the first model with Down syndrome to walk down the runway.
I’m no stranger to Brewer’s many talents, as I’m a devoted fan of the television show, American Horror Story.
She is a talented actress and is one the show’s best assets.
Designer Carrie Hammer selected Brewer to “shatter stereotypes,” ABC News reported. The show also featured philanthropists, bankers, computer coders and marketing executives.
In my opinion, Brewer is a wonderful role model and advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
She is conquering Hollywood and now the fashion world with her charm and determination. This goes to show that even though she was born with a disability, it does not mean that her dreams can’t be realized.
There are people without disabilities who are afraid to take leaps as big as Brewer has.
She is truly an inspiration, not only to myself, but also to the thousands of people living with IDD.
There is a quote from Brewer that I find immensely inspiring.
“Take the risk. Take the chance. Put your heart and soul into it, because when you put your soul into it, you will become what you’ve always dreamed,” Brewer said in the ABC news story. “You, yourself, will become a legend.”
I concur. If we never take those leaps of faith, we may never know what our lives may have been like.
Let’s challenge ourselves. The next time we are faced with a difficult decision or a fantastic opportunity, go for it with all your might.
