Student found with cap gun in school bus

The Picayune Police Department’s school resource officer division was notified on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. of an elementary student who had possession of a cap gun on a school bus parked near a high school, Picayune Police Department’s Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.

Upon the officers’ arrival, they recovered the gun, which was immediately recognizable as a cap gun with an orange tip on it, Magri said.

The officers took possession of the cap gun and the child was left in custody of the Picayune School District, Magri said.

Due to the child’s age, no charges have been made at this time, Magri said.

However, Picayune School District’s Assistant Superintendent Brent Harrell said the school will take the appropriate disciplinary action.
