Youth to host chocolate tasting

Valentine’s Day is the most romantic holiday of the year.
It’s a busy day for restaurants, florists and candy makers.
Couples flock to their nearest department stores to buy expensive gifts and chocolate.
The youth at Pine Grove Baptist Church are planning a unique Valentine’s celebration as a means of gathering funds for their trip to Go Tell Summer camp in Georgia.
Pine Grove youth minister Mark Cooper said the money will be utilized to fund transportation and provide a way for young adults to attend.
“The summer camp is a retreat of sorts for our youth,” Cooper said. “They participate in water sports and listen to worship bands and inspirational speakers throughout the entire week.”
The youth group will be hosting a chocolate tasting event on Friday Jan. 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the church.
People can donate their homemade chocolate confections and guests can taste them at their leisure, Cooper said.
“Anyone that lives in the community is welcome to take part is this event,” Cooper said. “The basic criteria is that the dessert be made with chocolate and that includes truffles, brownies and fudge.”
Along with the tasting event, Woods said that if there are enough desserts donated, the group will hold a silent auction or people can purchase individual dishes.
There will be a prize for the dish that is most well received, Cooper said.
“I think this will be a fun event and a way to bring something that I hope will be exciting to Picayune,” Cooper said.
If anyone is interested in donating to the youth group’s event, contact Cooper at 601-798-3645.
Pine Grove Baptist Church is located at 34 Pine Grove Rd.
