Women will be able to enjoy a day of wellbeing at this year’s Ninth Annual Women’s Health Symposium on Saturday, Jan. 31.
In October, the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation provided a $17,000 grant to the symposium.
Dr. Jennifer Seal, PRCC vice president for planning and institutional research and chair of the symposium steering committee, told the Item that the foundation has been the symposium’s grant sponsor since its inception.
“They continue making a difference to help us provide these services to women,” Seal said.
This year, the symposium will be held again in Crosby Hall at Pearl River Community College.
The event will begin at 7.30 a.m. with a continental breakfast for those who purchased tickets as well as the event’s sponsors, which include the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation, Hancock Bank, and Pearl River County Hospital and Nursing Home, among others.
Seal said the main speaker for the event is Janie Walters, CEO of Champion Communications. Later in the day, there will be a medical panel from the Hattiesburg Clinic and Pearl River County Hospital and Nursing Home who will discuss medical issues and answer questions from attendees.
“But the most important part of the event is the screenings,” Seal said.
Skin cancer screenings, stress management tips and blood pressure tests will be offered at the event.
The event will also include booths where attendees can get more information on topics ranging from Alzheimer’s to permanent makeup.
Later on, there will be a lunch provided, and entertainment from the Pearl River Community College’s The Voices jazz vocal ensemble.
While this year’s event is sold out, Seal hopes to hold the event again next year.
