The Poplarville Hornets’ soccer teams were in action on Monday night as they travelled to Brooklyn to take on the Aggies of Forrest County Agricultural High School.
The Poplarville boys moved one step closer to a playoff berth by winning their game 6-0.
Hornets senior forward and recent Pearl River Community College signee Noah Pearson scored three goals in the victory. Juniors Ethan Glasscock, Derrick Houston and Nick Hines also added goals.
The Lady Hornets surrendered an early goal, but responded with four unanswered goals of their own to win their match 4-1. Three freshmen – Ali Glasscock, Gracie Smith and Amber Smith – scored, and sophomore Merisa Myrick added a goal as well.
The Poplarville boys are still eligible to win their district and make the playoffs. The Hornets’ postseason hopes hinge on winning a rematch against Forrest County Agricultural High School at 7 p.m. this Friday night in Poplarville.
The Lady Hornets will kickoff against FCAHS at 5:30 p.m. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams will be celebrating Senior Night.
