Thursday, the Pearl River Central School District received word via social media that a student at one of their campuses was in possession of a weapon.
The rumor was started on the anonymous social media application Yik Yak, Superintendent Alan Lumpkin said.
The campus police department looked into the incident and acquired the student’s name.
That student was searched and questioned. After the investigations, the rumor was found to be untrue, Lumpkin said.
When asked which school the incident occurred, Lumpkin declined to comment.
“We take any and every threat seriously and look into each one,” Lumpkin said. “We are constantly monitoring Yik Yak.”
