Mass of Christian Burial for Dr. Octave Joseph “O.J.” Tournillon III, age 87 of Carriere, MS, who passed away Monday, November 24, 2014, will be held Friday, November 28, 2014, at 1:00pm at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1000 Goodyear Blvd., Picayune, MS.

Visitation will be Friday, November 28, 2014 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1000 Goodyear Blvd., Picayune, MS with mass of Christian burial to follow at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers please donate to your local schools or favorite charity.

Burial will be in New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

Monsignor “Father Bob” Massett and Father John Noone will officiate the service.

A native of New Orleans, LA, Dr. Tournillon was an Administrator/Principal/Coach and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He assumed the position of District Superintendent in the N.O. public schools. He coached for many years and was honored as “Coach of the Year.” Upon becoming a principal he was selected as “Educator of the Year.” Dr. Tournillon was President of the Greater New Orleans Officials Association, LA High School Athletic Association, New Orleans Business Association, Principal’s Association of Orleans Parish, Eastern New Orleans Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus, and member of many other organizations.
He received many honors including Holy Cross Man of the Year, Mayoralty of N.O. Merit award, Citizen of the Year, Educator of the Year, and many more. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and a mentor to countless people.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Octave Joseph Tournillon Jr., Mae Margaret Toscano Tournillon, and his brother, Rene’ Tournillon.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Mercier Tournillon; his 5 children, Cynthia Tournillon Dickinson Bachemin and husband Ralph, Michael Octave Tournillon and wife Tessie Kennedy, Terence “Terry” Joseph Tournillon and wife Irina Tomkovich, Octave “Jay” Joseph Tournillon IV and wife Lisa Urbano, and Stacey Ann Tournillon Walker and husband Clint; his 11 grandchildren, Lou, Matthew, and Brooke Dickinson, Erin Gill, Emily, Stuart, Adam, Chad, and Cody Tournillon, Marshall and Grant Walker; and his 7 great grandchildren, Layton, Ella, and Isabelle Gill, Cassandra, Madelynn, and Zoey Dickinson, and Michael Milton.
