After the Poplarville Board of Aldermen discussed grant opportunities with Sonny Woodard of Trinity Consulting Group, board members appointed a new library board member and discussed city policies.
The board appointed retired schoolteacher Harold Saucier to the Pearl River County Library Board, Board of Aldermen Member Shirley Wiltshire said. Mike Patton rotated off the board and Saucier will serve a five-year term.
During the meeting, the board also adopted the 2009 international building, electrical, gas, plumbing and mechanical codes, Wilshire said.
“These codes were reviewed by our fire and code enforcement officers and verified those that are suitable for Poplarville and Pearl River County,” Wiltshire said.
The citizens of Poplarville will now have the option of paying their bills online, Wiltshire said.
Board members approved a contract with Mississippi Interactive, LLC, allowing residents to pay their water bill and permit fees on the city’s webpage, Wiltshire said.
In another matter, according to Wiltshire, earlier this year Poplarville’s law enforcement officers began utilizing wearable audio and video recording system.
On Tuesday night, the board approved a device policy stating that the system must be turned on while the officer is on active duty, Wiltshire said.
In other matters the board approved:
• A grant from the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation for improvements to City Park.
• Advertising for part-time firemen.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. in board chambers at City Hall.
