A graveside memorial service will be held for Bill Harvey Powell at the Henleyfield Cemetery in Henleyfield, MS, on November 28th at 1 o’clock p.m.
The service will be officiated by Rev. R.T. Buckley. Bill greeted his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 29, 2014, at the age of 82.
He was born in 1931 to Alma and Reverend S.P. Powell in Ceasar Community, Mississippi, and was the youngest of 6 children. He followed his brothers into the armed forces, serving in the USAF during the Korean conflict. He then continued his career as an educator in Texas. He and his devoted wife of 62 years, Claudia Lee Powell, resided in Victoria and Garland, Texas. He enjoyed 20 years of retirement traveling the country.
He left behind his wife, 2 children, Julia Schutza and Jonathan Powell, Son-in-law Scott Schutza, and 2 grandchildren, Lawton Rader and Errin Schutza, all of whom loved him dearly. His last remaining sibling, Charles Powell, resides in Poplarville, Mississippi.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his oldest brother, Roddie P. Powell, and his sisters Evelyn, (Mrs. Marvin K. Lee), Cavie,( Mrs. Ed Rekart), and Jean, (Mrs. Theo Bilbo). Bill’s life was full and joyful, and those whose lives he touched will surely miss him.
