Beginning Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m., the Mississippi Department of Transportation will begin a bridge joint repair project on Interstate 10 over the Pearl River in Hancock County that is expected to cause major traffic delays.
There will be one lane of I-10 eastbound and westbound closed from 7 p.m. Friday Oct.17 to 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20.
The same process will be repeated the next weekend on Oct. 24 beginning at 7 p.m. and last until 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation stated in a release that wide loads will be restricted to a maximum of 11 feet while closures are in place.
“Work on this project will take place around the clock to minimize the impact to motorists who must travel along I-10 during the two week construction time frame,” Southern Transportation Commissioner Tom King said in the release. “This bridge maintenance work is an example of the priority MDOT places on the safety of the driving public.”
MDOT suggests travelers plan an alternate route while repair work is taking place.
