Frank Edward Cummings, 54, of Birmingham, Ala., succumbed to pancreatic cancer and went to spend eternity with his Heavenly Father on July 1, 2014.
Frank was born in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela to Elizabeth and the late Jack Cummings. He graduated from Tates Creek High School in Lexington, Kentucky in 1978 and attended the University of Mississippi. Frank was an accomplished cartoonist who worked as the assistant artist to John Marshall and Dean Young on the legendary comic strip “Blondie”. During his career, he worked for numerous newspapers, including the Picayune Item, and ad agencies and produced illustrations for publications worldwide. He created the City of Picayune caricature map that is still displayed in many Picayune businesses. He also published a southeast regional humor magazine, “JAB”.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Owens Cummings of 31 years, mother Elizabeth Cummings, sisters Cheryl Hymes (Alan) and Linda Kobe (John), and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Celebration of Life was held in the Broadway Room at the Comedy Club Stardome in Hoover, Alabama and the Burial was at the Amherst Fairlawn Cemetery in Amherst, Texas.
