Voting registration deadline

This is the last week to register to vote for the Nov. 4, 2014 general election. The final day to register is Saturday Oct. 4.
Pearl River County Circuit Clerk Vickie Hariel said both circuit court offices in the county will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Residents can register to vote Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Poplarville office is located in the county courthouse at 200 South Main St and the Picayune office is located in the Pearl River County Governmental offices at 917 Goodyear Blvd.
Registrants must bring a state-issued driver’s license, Hariel said.
According to a Secretary of State press release, voters are required by law to register at least 30 days prior to Election Day. Applications submitted after Oct. 4 will be processed; however those voters will not be eligible to vote in November’s election.
“Every Mississippian should be registered to vote,” Secretary Delbert Hosemann said in the release. “This is a privilege that comes at the cost of countless men and women who have given their lives for our country. You can honor their sacrifice by registering to vote today.”
Absentee voting has begun, Hariel said.
“If voters know they are going to be out of state for Election Day, they can cast ballots until Nov. 1 at noon,” Hariel said. “If voters are already out of state, they can call our officers and we will mail them a ballot.”
An extended voting registration period is available for eligible military and overseas voters, the release stated. That deadline is Oct. 25.
