James E. Porter Jr., 63, of Laurel, Miss., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 4, 2014 after a long illness. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 6 from 12 Noon until services at 2 p.m. at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb. Rev. David Grayson and Rev. Ronney Joe Webb will officiate with graveside in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, Miss.
James, affectionately known as Jimmy, was a retired Oilfield Sales Rep and was of the Baptist faith. He loved hunting, golfing, and playing ball. He was an accomplished football and baseball player with Ole Miss from 69-73. He was a loving father, who taught his three girls many life lessons through his love of sports. He was a loving grandfather and friend. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his father, James E. Porter Sr.
He is survived by mother, Vivian Porter of Laurel, MS., who was formerly of McComb; three daughters and their husbands, Joy and Kenny Speed, Jill and David Knighton, and Jessica and Kyle Strecker; seven grandchildren, Carson Porter Speed, Cooper Bryant Speed, Dannah Alex Knighton, James Harvey Knighton II, Daylyn Elyse Knighton, Ayden Chancellor-Porter Strecker, and Adysen Joyce-Marie Strecker; three brothers and their wives, Jeffrey and Jan Porter Sr., Jerald and Janet Porter and Jason and Terri Porter with numerous nieces and nephews
Pallbearers will be Greg Porter, Ryne Porter, Russell Porter, Jeffrey Porter Jr., and Reese Porter.
