Funeral Services for Rev. Wolton E. “Tom” Wheat, age 88, of  Carriere, MS, who passed away Monday, August 18, 2014, will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 11:00 am at Crossroads United Pentecostal Church, 3524 Hwy 26 West, Poplarville, MS.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm at Crossroads United Pentecostal Church and again on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am

Burial will be in Crossroads United Pentecostal Church Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

Rev. Kirk Hoelzel, Rev. Robert Samuel Duncan, and Rev. James Carney will officiate the service.

A native of Poplarville, MS, Bro. Tom was an US Army Veteran who served in WWII.  He was a Minister and the current Senior Pastor of Crossroads United Pentecostal Church. He was the former pastor of the First United Pentecostal Church in Picayune, MS. He was a pastor for over 50 years. His love of farming was evident in the beautiful gardens he grew every year. He grew the sweetest, juiciest, corn you ever tasted and people would drive from miles around to purchase it. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and pastor who will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 58 wonderful years, Murel Miller Wheat; parents, Luther Wheat and Mable Passman Wheat; two sisters, Pearlie Warner, Betty Duncan; three brothers, Billy Ray Wheat, Luther Wheat, and Joseph “Joey” Wheat.

Survivors include his five children, Linda Barber and husband Dossie, James Wheat and wife Joan, Johnny R. Wheat, Alvin Wheat, Alice Lee; eleven grandchildren, Karen Hoelzel and husband Kirk, Glenn Barber and wife Angie, James Barber and wife Crystal, Darwyn Jarrell, Kristen Wheat, Jason Wheat and wife Jamie, Jonathan Wheat, Derrick Lee and wife Jena, Jennifer Easley, Jeffrey Lee and Austin Darden; fifteen great grandchildren, Brennan Hoelzel and wife Jessica, Breanna Hoelzel, Kaitlyn Barber, Peyton Barber, Dalton Bridgers, Jayden Barber, Dalaina Barber, Dallas Barber, Trevor Jarrell, Presley Wheat, Brooklyn Lee, Madison Lee, Mavrick Lee, Halie Wheat, Jacee Wheat; two sisters, Rose Odom, Ruby Mae Miller, two brothers, O’Neal Wheat and wife Kathy, Jerry Wheat and wife Peggy; best friend and cousin, Cecil Wheat; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
