Sewage breach in Poplarville

Pearl River County Emergency Management Public Information Officer Tony Bounds said an old unused sewage pond at the treatment plant in south Poplarville suffered a levee breach at noon on Tuesday. The breach of sewage water has made its way to Jump Off Creek, which leads to the east Hobolochitto Creek, also known as Boley East.
As of Wednesday, the breach has been repaired and MDEQ and PRC Emergency Management are on the scene to pull water samples.
“We are asking residents to stay away from those creeks until test results are back,” Bounds said.
