PRCC splits pair in softball

ELLISVILLE — The sixth time wasn’t the charm for the Pearl River Community College softball team.

Homestanding Jones Junior College, ranked second in the nation, rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and take a 4-1 win in the opening round of the Region 23 Tournament here at Community Bank Park.

The win was the sixth straight for the Lady Bobcats over the Lady Wildcats this season.

The Lady Bobcats scored a run in the second off PRCC starter Courtney Warr to take an early lead.

But PRCC’s Hannah Holloway slapped a solo home run in the fifth to tie the game up.

Rachel Hickman took the loss. PRCC went on to beat Mississippi Gulf Coast 12-3 in an elimination game late Thursday night.
