Pearl River Central knocks off Wayne Co.

Pearl River Central can advance to the Class 5A South State semifinals with a win on the road tonight.

The homestanding Blue Devils belted Wayne County 6-1 in the opening game of their second round playoff series Thursday night. The same two teams play tonight in Waynesboro at 7 p.m.

Chance Putnam picked up the win for head coach Neil Walther’s team. The Blue Devils never trailed in the win.

Dylan Spiers drove in a run in the first to give PRC a lead it would never relinquish. Wesley Mitchell drove in a run in third, and PRC added another run thanks to a War Eagle throwing error

Leading 3-1, the Blue Devils sealed the win with three runs in the sixth. Anthony Hickman, Kaleb Morales and Christian Smith all drove in runs in that stanza for the Blue Devils as they picked up the win. Putnam then closed out the big win.
