Lady Hornets still lead 8-4A

Poplarville is still on a roll in prep fast-pitch softball.
The Lady Hornets came up with three big wins recently, including a 13-2 win over homestanding Bay High in Region 8-4A play Thursday night.
Kaley Lambert had four hits, including a home run and a triple, and drove in three runs in the win. Tristan Wheat and Branda Northrop each drove in two runs apiece in the winning effort, while Kaitlyn Clark added a run scoring triple as well.
The Lady Hornets followed it up with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Bogalusa on Saturday, winning 18-1 and 16-1.
In the first game, Northrop drove in four runs and Ondrea Ladner drove in three runs for the Lady Hornets. In game two, Camryn Pierce and Heather Smith drove in three runs apiece while Cailyn Beall collected three hits and drove in two runs in the winning effort.
Poplarville stands 14-1-1 overall, and leads Region 8-4A with a 5-0 mark.
The Lady Hornets were slated to meet Moss Point in a big district game Monday night.
• In other local action, Picayune fell to Baker (Ala.) Friday 13-3. The Lady Tide is set to host Stone County tonight.
