Agencies that offer assistance for the disabled

Tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Arc of Pearl River County will hold an event at Friendship Park that will assist people with cognitive disabilities in finding the help they need to succeed.

This event will connect these citizens with the services to find a job, a place to live or acquire medical assistance.

Many people may not know what sort of assistance people with cognitive abilities have at their disposal. There are several agencies that serve that purpose.

One is the Arc of Pearl River County, which is part of a national organization that works to provide information to parents, caregivers and home care service providers about the services available to them. Such assistance can help a person with disabilities go shopping, find a job or see a movie.

Social activities are essential, so the organization also holds dances and other social events where people with cognitive disabilities can interact.

The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services also works to better the lives of people with disabilities. Their office in Picayune can help people obtain and keep a job, provide job readiness training and provide job placement services.

For those who are homebound, there are services offered through the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services to help them get the assistance they need at home.

Organizations like those listed ensure every member of society has the opportunity to live their life to the fullest.

It can be difficult for people with disabilities to find their way around town, or get a job easily. For those that want to secure employment but are living with a disability, it’s good to know there are services to connect them with the resources they need to do so.
