The Picayune Police Department recently arrested three people for their involvement in possession of stolen property and controlled substances, said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief.

While attempting to serve an arrest warrant, officers observed a vehicle leaving a local motel, which they believed to be occupied by the suspect, Magri said.

When officers ran the license plate, it was discovered the vehicle was stolen in Texas, which allowed officers to conduct a felony traffic stop, Magri said.

The driver was identified as Sherry Rodgers, 23, of 38 Haascienda Rd., Poplarville. The two passengers were identified as Marvin Thibodeaux, 58, of 246 Wild Wind Rd, Gun Barrel, Texas and Joseph Hartfield, 25, of 46 Childs Rd., Poplarville, Magri said.

After handcuffing the subjects for officer safety, due to the vehicle being stolen, officers observed a hand rolled cigar containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, laying on the front driver’s side floorboard.

They also located a bag containing a crystal like substance believed to be crystal meth, Magri said.

In addition, officers located a small metal box containing a burnt, hand rolled cigarette with green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana, a clear plastic baggy containing a crystal like substance believed to be crystal meth inside Rodgers’ purse, Magri said.

“Rodgers was arrested for receiving stolen property, possession of controlled substance felony, and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle,” Magri said. “Thibodeaux was arrested for receiving stolen property and possession of controlled substance. Hartfield was arrested for possession of controlled substance.”

All three were transported to the Criminal Justice Center where they were booked and incarcerated on said charges, Magri said.
