SCOOBA — Pearl River Community College’s Lady Wildcats were swept by MACJC non-division foe East Mississippi here Thursday, falling 7-3 in the first game before getting shut out in the nightcap.

The victorious Lady Wildcats are now 6-6 overall, while the host Lady Lions are 11-9.

The two teams split in a previous doubleheader played Feb. 11 in Poplarville with PRCC winning the first game 5-4, while EMCC was a 9-1 winner in the second game of the twin bill.

In Thursday’s first game, The River went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but East Miss bounced back with a six-run effort in bottom of the third before adding a solo run in the fifth. The Lady Wildcats scored the game’s final runs with two in the seventh.

Starter Halie Green (5-3) picked up the win in going the distance, giving up six hits, striking out four, walking two, and hitting a batter, while River starter Ashley Hawkins of Theodore (Ala.) High (1-3) got the loss in her three innings on the mound, giving up three hits, striking out two, walking five, and hitting two batters.

Shelby Perry of Sumrall High relieved in the fourth, going two innings, giving up three hits, walking one, and hitting a batter, while Courtney Warr of Theodore (Ala.) High pitched the seventh, striking out one.

Kelsea Lewis of Oak Grove High led the Lady Wildcats’ six-hit effort with a double and a single (two RBIs), while Brooke Roberts out of Saint Amant High in Gonzales, La., had two base hits (one RBI), Heather Boutwell of Oak Grove High doubled, and Megan Scronce of Petal High singled (one RBI).

East Mississippi also had six hits, led by Corey Dawkins’ three singles (one RBI), while Pepper Baker smacked a grand slam homer (four RBIs), Kristen Mitchell doubled, and Kasey Stanfield singed. Meri Morgan Fortune and Anna McCrary both had RBIs for the Lady Lions.

PRCC played error free, while EMCC committed two defensive miscues.

In the nightcap game, East Miss scored a solo run in the bottom of the second and two in the sixth to take the shutout victory.

Starter Tori Seymore (2-1) picked up the win in going the distance, giving up two hits, striking out three, walking two, and hitting two batters, while PRCC starter Rachel Hickman of Poplarville High (4-2) got the loss. She also went the distance, giving up four hits, striking out five, walking three, and hitting a batter.

Boutwell and Scronce both singled for the Lady Wildcats, while Abby Roberts paced the Lady Lions’ five-hit effort with a triple, while Baker (one RBI), Dawkins, and Fortune (two RBIs) all had base hits.

EMCC committed an error in the contest, while PRCC played error free.

Pearl River returns to action Saturday when the Lady Wildcats open their MACJC South Division schedule with a road trip to Southwest Mississippi in Summit (1 p.m. doubleheader) before hosting South Division foe Hinds Tuesday (3 p.m. doubleheader).
