The Pearl River Central Middle School show choir New Edition and the High School show choir Central Attraction, will host their annual spring show at Pearl River Community College’s Brownstone Center on March 22, at 6 p.m.

Director Debbie Wolfe said the event will also feature a performance from musical theater teacher Ginger Schmidt.

Student soloists who placed at the recent Mississippi Show Choir Contest will perform and the middle school and high school students will perform a brand new opening number together, Wolfe said.

New Edition will perform their Broadway themed competition routine, which includes the songs “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” “Rhythm of Life” and “Born to Hand Jive” from the musicals “Hairspray,” “Sweet Charity” and “Grease.”

The theme of Central Attraction’s routine is “Let’s Go to the Movies,” which includes the songs “Queen of the Night,” “Old Time Rock and Roll,” “I Like to Dance” and “When You Believe.”

The price of admission for students and college students is $5. Admission for non-students will be $10.

Wolfe said the spring show is an opportunity for the parents and community to see both groups’ routines.

She said despite the rough start to the competition season, the students have really turned around. In every competition since their first, both groups have placed first in their division and Central Attraction has qualified for finals in each competition, Wolfe said.

“The students and I have had so much fun this season that we hate to see it end,” Wolfe said. “I hope people will come see these groups on March 22 at the Brownstone Center for the Arts on the PRCC campus.”

At the Mississippi Show Choir Contest in February, Central Attraction member Hunter King won the Grand Champion Solo Award. The group also was second runner up in the finals.
