Poplarville remains atop region race with big road win over Pass Christian

Poplarville remained atop the standings in Region 8-4A prep softball action Thursday night.

But the other pair of local teams weren’t as fortunate.

The Lady Hornets shut out homestanding Pass Christian 10-0. Moving to 3-0 in league action.

Poplarville smacked 14 hits in the winning attack. Tristan Wheat had three hits, including a double, and drove in a game high four runs. Branda Northrop also had three hits and a pair of RBI’s, while Kaley Lambert had a pair of hits and drove in three runs. Kaitlyn Clark added two hits and drove in a run, while Maryah Davis had two hits as well. One of Davis’ hits was a triple, while in addition to Wheat, Northrop, Lambert and Clark each had a double as well.

Poplarville is 10-1-1 overall, and will play its first home game of the season taking on Forrest County AHS Monday night in league play.

• Meanwhile, Picayune fell to 0-2 in Region 7-5A play falling on the road to Stone County 16-8. The Lady Tide dropped to 0-2 in league play with the loss.

Alyssa Pinero carried a big stick for the Lady Tide, as she had three hits including a double and drove in two runs. Marissa McDonald had an RBI-triple, while Rylee Dawsey added a triple as well. Jennifer Walker, Lauren Walker and Nala Carter each had a pair of hits and drove in a run apiece for the Lady Tide.

Megan Dudenhefer took the loss for Picayune, which was scheduled to play Pass Christian Friday night.

• Also, Pearl River Central fell to homestanding Long Beach Thursday afternoon 7-0 as Lady Cat pitcher Krystal Goodman hurled a no-hitter.

Taylor Harris took the loss for the Lady Devils.

Long Beach hosts Picayune in Region 7-5A play Tuesday.

Pearl River Central was coming off an 8-1 win over OLA earlier in the week. Hailee Buras picked up the win.

Hannah Rester had a pair of hits, while Karlie Fitzgerald added two hits also. Brooklyn Kirk had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for PRC, while Brooklyn Kirk drove in three runs with a double. Austin Pruitt also drove in a run in the win.

The Lady Devils are scheduled to play at Gautier today.
