Lady Tide nips PRC, will meet again today

Homestanding Picayune pulled out an exciting 3-2 win over arch-rival Pearl River Central in prep fast-pitch softball action Thursday night.
Now, the Lady Devils get a shot at some revenge at home today.
Megan Dudenhefer slapped a two run single for the big blow in the winning effort for the Lady Tide. Dudenhefer had a pair of hits to pace Picayune at the plate, while Marissa McDonald registered a triple.
The game was a scoreless pitchers duel between Picayune’s Elizabeth Taggard and PRC’s Taylor Harris until the sixth inning.
Taggard picked up the win, going the distance, scattering six hits, striking out four and walking two.
Harris took the loss, and Hailee Buras pitched in relief. The PRC duo allowed only four hits.
Hannah Rester paced PRC with a pair of hits in the game.
The teams will face off at 11 a.m, today following a junior varsity game.
• Earlier in the week, Poplarville opened Region 8-4A play with a 20-2 thumping of homestanding Forrest County AHS.
The Lady Hornets moved to 6-1-1 overall with the win. Poplarville tallied 10 runs in the second inning to take control.
Poplarville banged out 17 hits in the winning effort, led by Tristan Wheat who had three hits including a double. Camryn Pierce had a pair of doubles and drove in three runs, while Drew Smth had a double and drove in a pair of runs. Kaley Lambert also had a double.
Pierce picked up the pitching win.
Poplarville plays at Purvis in a doubleheader today taking on both the home team and Sumrall. The Lady Hornets travel to Vancleave Monday night in league play.
