Lady Hornets beat Picayune

Poplarville picked up a big early season win in prep fast-pitch softball action Monday night.

The Lady Hornets traveled to Pearl River County Poplarville and remained unbeaten on the season with a 16-6 win.

With the win, Poplarville moves to 3-0 on the season, while Picayune drops to 1-1-1.

Camryn Pierce picked up the win for Poplarville, while Elizabeth Taggard took the loss for the Lady Tide.

Madison Nodurft had two hits to pace Poplarville, including cracking a two run home run and she also drove in four runs. She has reached base 11 times in 11 attempts in the three wins so far for Poplarville.

Kaitlyn Clark also drove in four runs for the Lady Hornets, as she collected three hits including a triple.

Taggard had three hits for Picayune. Taggard, Alyssa Pinero and Nala Carter each drove in runs for the Lady Tide.

The same two teams meet again Thursday night in Poplarville.

• Also on Monday, Pearl River Central fell to Gulfport 5-4 in extra innings. The Lady Devils led 4-1 going to the bottom of the seventh before homestanding Gulfport rallied to tie the game with three runs in that frame and went on to win it in the bottom of the eighth.
