Picayune Police Department officers were dispatched to a traffic accident at the intersection of Mississippi Hwy. 43 North and U.S. Highway 11 involving a Pine Grove Fire and Rescue truck and a 1998 Ford Taurus, said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief.

On March 13, at 7:14 p.m., officers responded to the scene where a Pine Grove Fire and Rescue truck driven by a Pinegrove VFD firefighter had struck a 1998 Ford Taurus, Magri said.

The firefighter stated that he had attempted to clear the intersection by using the truck’s sirens and lights, in an attempt to continue west on Hwy. 43 North. He proceeded to the intersection through the red light, as the Taurus continued to head south through the intersection, which had a green light. The driver of the Taurus did not see the approaching Fire Rescue Truck or hear the sirens, Magri said.
