Poplarville sets date for referendum on beer

The City of Poplarville will hold an election on March 25 from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. to vote on the sale of light wine and beer within the city limits.

The vote would be for or against the legal sale of “light wine of an alcoholic conent of not more than five percent by weight and beer of an alcoholic content of not more than eight percent by weight.”

The deadline to register for the upcoming election is Saturday, Feb. 22 at noon. Those wishing to register can do so at Poplarville City Hall or the Pearl River County Circuit Clerk’s office.

To vote by absentee ballot, a resident must register at City Hall by March 22. The deadline to receive a mailed application and absentee ballot at City Hall, other than a Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act voter, is March 24. The deadline for a UOCAVA voter is March 25, at 7 p.m.

City Hall will be open March 15 and 22 until noon for absentee voting.
