1989

On this day, PRCC considered turning the vocational technology centers in Lamar, Forest and Hancock counties over to the local boards of education in an attempt to save money.

Three individuals were arrested during a drug bust at the Mississippi Welcome Center. A 1989 Lincoln Continental, 602 pounds of cocaine, a 380 caliber semi-automatic pistol and $112,000 of U.S. currency was seized during the bust.

1994

On this day, the Mississippi Public Service Commissioner investigated Dixie Utilities, a locally owned natural gas distributor, for raising customers’ prices without authorization.

1999

On this day, an underground natural gas line caught fire during a brush fire in Pine Grove. Volunteer firefighters had to close a portion of Liberty Road for two hours while crews shutdown the gas line.
