Jimmie L. East Sr., 69 of SoSo, Miss., who passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at his residence.  A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at New Palestine Cemetery in  Laurel, Miss.  The Rev. Jimmy Hood will officiate.

Although Mr. East had earned the Purple Heart Award during his service in Vietnam, his proudest day was in November of 2011 when he finally received the award. He was a member and served a term as commander of the American Legion of Picayune, MS.  He was also an avid fan of and participant in playing softball.

Mr. East was preceded in death by: his parents,  Dovey Otto East and Veola Van Norden East;
brothers, Bobby East and Charles East; and sister, Ann Smith.

Survivors include: his  daughters, Melinda S. East, Picayune, Miss. and  Amy East Graves (Steve), Soso; son, Jimmie L. East II (Stella), Starkville, Miss.; grandchildren: Jimmie L. East “Blake”, III, Logan East, Brandon Graves, Chance Delaney, Ashton Alphonse, Brooklyn Hollaway and Machael East; sister,  Yvonne Sobers (Luther), Baton Rouge, La., and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Vietnam 85^th Ordinance Company.
