FUMC World Day of Prayer luncheon

United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church, located on the corner of Fourth Street and North Haugh Avenue in Picayune, will be hosting their annual World Day of Prayer service and luncheon on Friday, March 7, 12:00 noon, in the church sanctuary and fellowship hall. The cost of the soup and salad luncheon is $5 and reservations are requested by 4:00 pm. Wednesday, March 5, by calling the church office at 601-798-4321.

Ms. Kay Barksdale, president of the United Methodist Women’s Mississippi Conference Leadership Team, will be the guest speaker. A native of Memphis, TN, she has made Jackson, MS, her home for many years. Ms. Barksdale is a 1964 graduate of Millsaps College with a B. A. in religion. She worked as Youth Director for Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church for two years following graduation.

Her professional experience also includes banking, newspaper editing and reporting, and administration as director of public relations, church relations, alumni and parent relations for Millsaps College. Though currently retired, she works part-time for the Eudora Welty Foundation.

Ms. Barksdale is a member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church and is active in the Bethany Circle. She serves as president of the Altar Guild, and served eight years as Galloway’s lay delegate to Annual Conference.

She is also Homework Mentor for children’s choirs on Wednesday afternoons. In addition, she is a member of Jackson’s Friends of the Library and assists with activities for the Millsaps Navy V-12 group.

Ms. Barksdale is the mother of two grown sons, Bill and Dan, and one granddaughter, 13-year-old Lauren.

We look forward to Ms. Barksdale touching our hearts as she shares her message, “What Does God Require of Us?” Everyone is welcome and nursery will be provided.
