Champions set for big grid award
The Class 5A state football champion Picayune Maroon Tide will be honored once again Friday morning.
Veteran head coach Dodd Lee and assistant coach Walt Esslinger, who also serves as Athletics Director, along with the entire team and coaching staff will be presented the Army National Guard national ranking trophy as part of the ninth annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions.
Picayune is one of just 50 schools nationwide selected for this honor, and just one of two in Mississippi that will be honored with an on campus presentation.
The ceremony will take place at 9:20 in Kelly Wise Gym on the campus of Picayune Memorial High School.
School officials said that the public is invited to attend the ceremony. Fans attending need to enter through the front of the school by the office and proceed to the gym where the ceremony will take place.
