Lumpkin said School Board Appreciation Week is Feb. 16-22 and presented members with a plaque for their service. The board members were also treated to a meal before the meeting and given gifts from each school.

“Their hearts are in the right place and we love them for that,” Lumpkin said.

Pearl River Central Upper Elementary Principal Darlene Hall gave a report on what has been going on at the upper elementary school so far this year.

Hall said the theme for the year at the school is about royalty and helping the students realize the faculty thinks they are special and amazing.

Hall said this is the second year the school has hosted a canned food drive and anti-bullying education and awareness campaign.

The school has also implemented honors classes for fourth grade language arts, math and science, Hall said.

Hall also presented the first place winner of the Bullying Awareness and Kindness Counts art campaign to Jenna Morrison. Courtney Sebastian placed second in the contest and Bryant Blanchard placed third.
