Local squads set to return to action on Thursday night

After a bit of a weather delay, several local sports teams are set to return to action tonight.

Picayune’s boys soccer team will travel to Pascagoula Thursday night at 6 P. M., for an opening round game in the Class 5A South State playoffs.

Poplarville basketball gamess at Pass Christian Thursday have been postponed.

On Friday, all games scheduled for Friday are still on as of presstime, that includes prep basketball games Picayune at Long Beach, Vancleave at Poplarville and Wingfield at Pearl River Central.

Also, PRC is set to host Natchez on Saturday at 3 P.M.

Pearl River Community College split with rival Copiah-Lincoln in women’s and men’s MACJC South Division basketball action here Monday with the home-standing Lady Wolfpack pulling off a convincing 78-59 victory, while the Wildcats snapped a five-game losing streak with a 70-56 victory.

PRCC’s women dropped to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in division play, while its men improved to 10-5 and 3-4. CLCC’s women are now 10-6 and 3-4, while its men are 8-8 and 4-3.

In the women’s game, Co-Lin led 32-23 at the intermission before outscoring The River 46-36 in the second half to take the 19-point victory.

The two schools eye South Division women’s and men’s rematches Thursday, Feb. 20, in Poplarville.

PRCC returns to the hard court Thursday when hosts Hinds for more South Division action in Shivers Gym at 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men) before traveling to division foe East Central next Monday for contests at 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men).
