Wide load to move through county

A very wide load will move along Mississippi Highway 26 this afternoon, probably between 3 and 5 p.m., said Kenny Foote, public information officer with the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

According to an MDOT press release, the oversize load is being transported for United Vision Logistics and will travel across the state from the Alabama state line to the Louisiana state line on a path involving Interstate 10, Mississippi Highway 63, U.S. Highway 98, Interstate 59 and Mississippi Highway 26.

Foote said the movement began at about daybreak. He said the load is moved during daylight hours so that Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers, who are escorting the load, can check bridges to be sure the load, which is 20 feet wide, won’t hit any abutments and any overpasses the load, which is 13 feet, 6 inches high, must pass under won’t be struck. The load is also 78 feet long, but still doesn’t exceed the state’s legal weight limit of 80,000 pounds.
