Pearl River County Fire Marshal Albert Lee is investigating the possible arson of a residence at 1556 McNeill-McHenry Road in Poplarville.
Lee got a call from the owners of the residence on Wednesday at 4:24 p.m. The owners used the residence as a storage home and when they went to check on the house Wednesday, they discovered it had been burned down.
Lee said the fire happened sometime on Monday or Tuesday and that he is investigating it as an arson.
“If anyone has any information on the fire, if you could call the Sheriff’s office, I would appreciate it,” Lee said.
He said he is investigating the fire as a stand alone incident.
On Wednesday at 4:37 p.m., Henleyfield Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire at 6157 Mississippi Highway 43 North in Henleyfield.
Lee said when the fire department received the call, they were informed that a man was trapped inside of the house.
Before the fire department arrived at 4:44 p.m., a man passing by the house noticed the fire and proceeded to help the trapped man escape.
There were no injuries reported, Lee said.
He said he is investigating the fire as an accident. The house sustained heavy damage with the fire burning a hole in the roof and the kitchen sustaining heavy water damage.
Lee said Henleyfield VFD was assisted by Amackertown VFD, McNeill VFD and Carriere VFD.
